Brazilian Butt Lift Overview
The Brazilian Butt Lift is an incredibly effective procedure for body contouring because it can take unwanted fat from areas of the body, such as the abdomen or thighs, and reinsert that fat in into areas where more volume is desired, like the buttocks. This can significantly magnify that hourglass figure so many seek to achieve. The other benefits are that this procedure has a relatively short recovery time and uses the body’s own fat for contouring rather than an implant. This is beneficial for the healing process and it elimates the chance of the body rejecting a foreign object.
How the Brazilian Butt Lift is Performed
To achieve a Brazilian Butt Lift, Dr. Proffitt will harvest fat from an area on your body, typically the stomach, and then after preparing the harvested fat, inject it into the buttocks. Injecting fat into the buttocks is a way to help the buttocks appear fuller, rounder, and in general improve the overall appearance. This procedure typically takes about two or three hours to complete.
The fat is harvested with the help of liposuction, which involves the use of a cannula. A cannula is a thin tube that has a sharp end for dislodging stubborn fat cells from their surrounding tissues. For fat grafting, it will be important to harvest fat as gently as possible so that the cells stay healthy for transplantation. Dislodged fat cells are removed through the cannula via medical suction.
During the injection process, the fat cells are injected evenly in order to provide the most aesthetically pleasing results. This process can take time, but it is worth it for the sake of ensuring that grafted fat cells connect to the blood supply in the region. This allows them to survive and thrive for long-lasting results.
Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery and Healing
When healing after a Brazilian butt lift, patients must take time off from their job. Typically, around two weeks off is recommended. During this time, patients will need to wear a post-surgical elastic garment in order to control bruising and swelling. Ice packs will also help with this process.
For around two to three weeks of recovery, it will be very important to not sit directly on the buttocks; pressure on the buttocks must be avoided, as it can damage the transplanted fat cells. Patients must not swim for at least four weeks after the procedure.
Taking care to follow Dr. Proffitt’s post-surgical care directions diligently leads to longer-lasting results, minimized chance of complications, and a shorter recovery process.
Brazilian Butt Lift Results
The results of fat grafting are permanent and can help the butt to appear fuller and perkier while simultaneously shrinking the waist and thighs. However, in many cases, the patient’s body will break down and resorb some of the grafted fat.
A butt Augmentation with fat injections may not improve the appearance of sagging skin. To help improve sagging skin in the buttock area, Dr. Proffitt may recommend a traditional butt lift.

Traditional Butt Lift
A traditional butt lift will tighten and lift the buttocks for a more youthful and round appearance. It is an ideal option for contouring and reduction of sagging but does not create new volume in the buttocks like the Brazilian butt lift does. Dr. Proffitt performs these surgeries at an outpatient facility.
The traditional butt lift involves administration of anesthesia, followed by the creation of incisions in the area. The excess skin is carefully removed using a scalpel, the remaining skin is tightened, and then the incisions are closed using surgical stitches.
